MONTREAL - Quebec provincial police are investigating an incident where a man was subdued by Montreal police using a stun gun and ended up in critical condition in hospital. The investigation stems from a traffic stop by Montreal police officers who noticed a man driving erratically Sunday night, Montreal police said in a statement. Police believed the man was intoxicated and say he became aggressive when he was questioned. Officers used a Taser stun gun to subdue him. The man was then sent to hospital for an examination, as dictated by police procedure. The man's condition deteriorated for unknown reasons during the day on Monday and he remains in critical condition, Montreal police said. Quebec provincial police were called in to investigate in accordance with provincial policy that says a police force cannot investigate itself when someone is injured or killed during a police operation. Use of stun guns by police is being questioned following an incident in Vancouver where a man died after being zapped by RCMP officers using a stun gun.
