B.C. government to announce if cops involved in airport taser death to be charged

The Canadian Press

VANCOUVER, B.C. — B.C.'s Criminal Justice Branch is set to announce whether any of the Mounties involved in Robert Dziekanski's death at Vancouver's airport last year will be charged.

The branch is to hold a news conference Friday morning.

Dziekanski died on the floor of the airport after he was jolted at least twice with an RCMP Taser.

He had become agitated after wandering around lost for hours after arriving from Poland.

Last month, commissioner Thomas Braidwood said the RCMP officers connected to Dziekanski's death will be subpoenaed to testify at an inquiry if they do not voluntarily take part.

But RCMP have said their officers cannot give evidence at the inquiry with the possibility of charges still hanging over them.
